This year’s Show Me Wellington (SMW) expo attracted a record number of new exhibitors, and an impressive ratio of buyers, to the annual showcase of what Wellington has to offer the Australasian MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing and Exhibitions) industry.
On the 7 August 2014 the coolest little capital showed New Zealand what hosting truly unforgettable events is all about.
SMW is the vibrant face of the ‘Wellington Conference and Events Expo’ - an event that showcases our amazing city and why it’s such a great place to host events.
This year, several new exhibitors joined the expo including Tuatara Brewing, the Hoff Group, Good Chemistry Catering, Top Brewer by Mojo Coffee, Wellington Chocolate Factory, House of Dumplings and Social Cooking.
We had a fantastic response from exhibitors, new and old, who showcased their products and experiences to eager expo buyers. A range of impressive stands really highlighted the standard of this year's expo, as well as the high calibre of buyers that attended.
New to SMW, this year the expo featured a series of seminars from leading Wellingtonians, including Peter Biggs, CEO of Clemenger BBDO, Tim Launder, CEO of WOW, Ian Collier, Air NZ’s Regional Affairs Manager, Natasha Lampard, organiser of Webstock as well as industry experts.
Mr Collier spoke about Air NZ’s Go Beyond strategy, and its new alliance with Singapore Airlines that he hopes will add to New Zealand’s sales and marketing presence in the high-value Pacific Rim market.
Natasha Lampard said that when thinking of the right place to hold an event, you need to consider the aesthetic and personality of the city.
“Wellington is a beautiful, easy, compact and friendly city to put on an event. Organisers can concentrate on making their event special, as the city just is, sitting in the background as part of the show.”
The Talk About Cool sessions provided a great framework for busy buyers looking for additional inspiration and ideas to add to their toolkit for engineering outstanding event experiences.
Buyers also got a taste of the new team building product hitting the Wellington market – The Amazing GPS race. To complete the race buyers downloaded the ‘GPS Race’ app to their smartphone and had a set of tasks and questions to complete onsite. This was designed to move them around the expo, meet exhibitors and discover some of our cool new event offerings. Buyers who completed the race went into the draw to win show tickets.
Our suspended digital screen was a popular feature again – exhibitor and buyers alike tweeted away with a mix of show photos and posts to our @ShowMeWgtn twitter feed.
We greatly appreciate your feedback, please continue to share with us your thoughts and suggestions. This helps us to ensure our expo continues to get better and brighter each year.
